One of VTG's long-time customers, Steve deGroot from Dutch Productions was recently featured in a case study video for Quantum's CatDV Asset Management system products, in which he described a project completed for a large NYC venue client. Faced with providing the client with over 20 years of masters, b-roll and project video that had been organized into Avid projects so that the client could reutilize that video content in Adobe Premiere, Steve turned to VTG and Quantum CatDV to extract the clipping information, sub-clips, editorial comments, markers and metadata from Avid bins as CatDV clips that could then be exported for new projects. The final clips were then transcoded to ProRes mezzanine files with metadata and uploaded to the client's AWS S3 cloud location.
VTG founder Bob Spencer was the CatDV architect on the project, and worked with the Quantum engineering team to develop a brand new set of capabilities to import Avid clips and metadata which linked to the original Avid native files as wel as AMA-linked media content. From there, the content could be exported as ProRes or pulled directly into Premiere through CatDV's Premiere Plug-in Panel. Last to be added was a new set of export options to generate Avid proxy content in the required MXF OP-Atom format and update Avid database files to the existence of the new media so that it could also be used in Avid projects. Taken together, these new features comprise the core of the CatDV Avid Worflow tools announced in September 2023.
